As stated earlier, the use of splashing is very versatile and can be used on any numeric data that follows the same dimensional structure. Say you finished filling out the budget and now need to do a 3+9 forecasting, you can then create a measure for your budget and apply it to the grid via splashing, in your forecasting.
For this example, we add a new measure that calculates the amount based on the scenario “Budget”.

Splashing Budget = CALCULATE( [Amount], FILTER(ALL(dbo_DimScenario),dbo_DimScenario[ScenarioName]="Budget")
- Following the steps from the previous example, add this new measure to the splashing section of the accoPLANNING visualization pane.
- In the upper-left corner of the accoPLANNING grid, click the filter icon. A menu will open, choose “Forecast 3+9”.
- This will bring up a fresh grid with only actuals showing for the first three months.
- Mark the blank cells for the remaining nine months, type “=”(equals)-sign, hit ENTER, and choose your newly added splashing measure for the budget. This will fill the empty cells with budget actuals and allow you to perform forecasting based on the values (as shown in the second visual).
